How does it work ?

Sophrology gives you a very practical set of tools using relaxation, breathing techniques, concentration, positive visualization and simple body movements.

Guided by the sophrologist, you learn how to relax your entire body and reach a state of deep relaxation. From that state of consciousness, specific techniques are chosen to address your specific needs.

In group sessions, people discover the basic methods organized around the first four levels of dynamic relaxation. They are able at the end of each session to start using some of the techniques. Participants can work on wellness, relaxation, stress management, self-confidence.

The one hour individual session allows to work with the sophrologist on a problem or toward a personal objective. The number of sessions varies according to your need.

It is recommended to practice between the sessions; one of the objectives of Sophrology is to make you self-sufficient in managing your wellness.

What is Sophrology

The name Sophrology comes from three Greek words.
SOS (harmony) PHREN (consciousness) and LOGOS (Study and Science) and means “the study of consciousness in harmony”.

The method was created in Spain in 1960 by Professor Alfonso Caycedo, a neuro-psychiatrist.
It is based on a combination of Oriental techniques (yoga, Zen, and meditation), and Western psychology, phenomenology and hypnosis.
Professor Caycedo adapted all these techniques to create a structured method that can be used and integrated in our daily life.
Sophrology aims to help people live more consciously with their body and mind in harmony. It teaches them how to relax, to handle stressful events, to be more aware of their inner resources, strengths and personal values.
Sophrology includes both physical and mental exercises, which are done in a state of dynamic relaxation (relaxation in movement).

In continental Europe, Sophrology has been used for more than 50 years with great success as an alternative to medication.
Sophrology is used in the corporate world; in hospitals and more generally medical practice by doctors, nurses, mid-wives, dentists; in sports, arts, education.
